Hybrid Molding

solutions

Tri-Mack has expertise in both one-step and two-step hybrid molding.

One-Step Hybrids

  • Laminates are heated to the melt point at injection molding, enabling forming within the injection mold.
  • Eliminates forming tools and process steps while promoting a high-strength bond.

Two-Step Hybrids

  • Laminates are formed prior to molding, enabling multiple pieces of composite to be used within the part.
  • Lower melt composite or surface heating needed for the melt bond.

Hybrid Panel

  • Laminates are heated to the melt point at injection molding, enabling forming within the injection mold.
  • Eliminates forming tools and process steps while promoting a high- strength bond.
  • Automated one-step processing with in- mold thermoforming and high- strength overmold bond
  • Allows for same-material hybrids, such as PEEK continuous composite combined with PEEK injection molding compound
  • Fully automated robotic injection molding cell
  • In-mold forming and assembly
  • Reduced tooling costs and process steps
  • Automation ensures high-quality, low cost components

Hybrid Bracket

  • Laminates are formed prior to molding, enabling multiple pieces of com- posite to be used within the part.
  • Lower melt composite or surface heating needed for the melt bond.
  • Multi-piece composite using a two- step overmolding process
  • 50% weight and 20% cost savings vs. machined aluminum
  • PAEK laminates overmolded with PEEK
